On Wednesday March 18th 2026 Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal visited Bedford School to inspect The Combined Cadet Force and to unveil a memorial board that I had carved weeks earlier.
Following the inspection, Her Royal Highness proceeded to the Bedford School Memorial Hall to unveil a new Memorial Board commemorating 21 Old Bedfordians who lost their lives in the First World War. These individuals were identified through extensive research undertaken by the Old Bedfordians Office and local historians. Their names now join the 756 Old Bedfordians already honoured from both the First and Second World Wars – this is particularly poignant as the Memorial Hall itself marks its centenary year.
In the Memorial Hall I stood with relatives of the newly recognised Old Bedfordians as Her Royal Highness talked to us individually and unveiled the board.
Special mention must be made to P&S Timbrell Decorators Ltd. who were responsible for the gilding, painting and colour matching of the memorial board.
